The stream of motorists travelling along the Kay Street precinct in Traralgon were rather bemused and amused last Thursday evening (December 19th) to see a number of Santa Clauses running up and down the Kay Street linear park, across from the swimming pool to the top of the hill and return. The Harriers celebrated their Christmas breakup with a fun team-relay race. Instead of the traditional baton relay the teams had to change over their Santa suit – hat, beard, jacket and pants.
And at the turn-around opposite the RSL bowling club, mischievous elves Molly Irvine, Michelle Sawyer and Tom Irvine sprang from hiding places behind the shrubs and sprayed the runners from their water guns – most refreshing in the warm evening.
With some of the more senior teams experiencing Santa-induced ‘wardrobe malfunctions’ the winning relay team containing three sub-teenagers was a victory of youth over age.
After the fun run the members enjoyed drinks and nibbles at the nearby Spirit Bar and Lounge, with some impromptu karaoke performances later on. The members were very grateful to Andrew Legge and his team who organized such an enjoyable end of season occasion.
The club will hold its presentation evening in January, with the date to be announced. Next year’s Latrobe City Community Fun Run will be held on Sunday March 15th, and the Traralgon Marathon on Sunday June 14th.
After the Christmas break the first event next year is the Water Tower run on Thursday January 16th from the clubrooms in Douglas Parade, Traralgon, from 5.45 pm, with 5, 3 and 1.5 kilometre distances. All runners, joggers and walkers are welcome.
The Harriers wish a Merry Christmas to all members, sponsors, supporters and participants.
