Rose Rumble 5km
With the end of daylight savings last weekend, Thursday night’s run was the first of the darker and colder night runs for 2016. However the cool change proved to be refreshing after a long hot summer. The Rose Rumble course takes runners on two loops around Rose Avenue and Hickox Street in Traralgon, with 38 runners turning up to tackle the 5km run.
It was great to see a few new faces this week, Tim Buckley and Tacen Davidson both had a fantastic run on their first night with the club.
For the second week running, the first male home on the handicap was Peter Grixti in 31 minutes 6 seconds. Second was new runner Tim Buckley in 31:31 and in third place was Jason Irvine with a time of 24:51. The first female on the handicap system was Hillary Meyer with 21:51, second was Kayla Gallert in 22:29 and only a few seconds behind was Simone Forbes with a time of 22:35.
The fastest outright runners for the night were, for the ladies, Hillary Meyer 21:15, Karen Graham 22:24 and Kayla Gallert 22:29. The fastest men were led by Glenn Graham 19:49, Steve McLeod 21:01 and Rob Semmler (21:09).
Harriers veteran and champion Ray Ellis completed one lap and finished with a time of 25 minutes and 5 seconds.
Next week’s run will be held in Morwell on Bridle Road. The 6km run will begin outside Kurnai College. Please arrive at 5.40pm in time for a 6pm start. Thursday night runs are perfect for runners of all ages and abilities, with shorter course options available.
