TRARALGON HARRIERS’ RACE REPORT 17/3/2016
TOUR DE WEST 6KM, TRARALGON
Last week’s race was the single loop Tour De West 6km held in the gently undulating north-west aspects of Traralgon.
Although warm and humid, conditions were otherwise conducive to fast running.
For the second time in five weeks Tony Arrowsmith was the handicap winner, on this occasion running just short of three minutes faster than for the similarly gentle Lake Hyland 6km in February. His Tour De West time: 29min 18sec.
With a wopping five minute improvement since Lake Hyland, Ian Heafield took second place in the handicap in 34:15. Some of Ian’s strong form may be due to the fitness gains from his recent multi-day hike along the 100km Great Ocean Road Coastal Trail.
Third place was claimed by Hillary Meyer, 26:17 in her standard consistent and athletic style. Hillary was also the outright fastest female finisher.
The quickest female trio on net times were: Hillary Meyer 26:17, Karen Graham 27:18 and Sue Elsdon 29:00.
The fastest three males were: Ian Cornthwaite 23:20, Glenn Graham 24:34 and Mark Rossiter 25:22.
This Thursday’s race is the Race Course 5km from the Glenview Park Racecourse, McNairn Road, Traralgon at 6pm. There will also be available an intermediate race of 3km and a junior race of 1km.
Newcomers are very welcome. Please allow sufficient time to register before the start.
