March 27th, 2025 President’s Note 27/03/2025

Last weekend’s McMillans Latrobe City Fun Run and Walk was another great success for the club and community. Race Directors Trent Kooyman and Clinton Jolly did a fantastic job in organising the day, with solid participation numbers, amazing sponsors and supporters helping to make CFR 2025 a top day. And of course, we raised some valuable funds for Gippsland Rotary Centenary House.

The CFR event fulfils part of the club’s charter, in giving back to the community, and running an event which provides the community with an opportunity to partake in a healthy and fun day, which promotes a healthy lifestyle. There are always many people to acknowledge and thank when putting together a big event like this. Read Trent and Clinton’s report in this edition of newsletter (you can subscribe via the Harriers homepage if you're not on the mailing list).

Our recent Committee Meeting was productive and positive. We are exceptionally fortunate to have so many committed and talented people on committee, with a diverse array of skill sets. I believe the last few years have seen a genuine strengthening of the club, in large part due to the input of wonderful people, who have a desire to make the club the best it can be.

We’re still looking for volunteers for our Track Night at Newborough next week. If you’re not running for any reason, or perhaps if you’re injured, we’d appreciate your assistance with lap counting and officiating. This will ensure a smooth evening on the track for all groups. I’d again like to make a special thank you and mention to those who have been injured but have still been coming to Thursday runs and filling duty for other members, so they can do a run. Those who show up to do the duty for someone else, are really appreciated. These are the kinds of selfless acts that define our club.

Our Winter Season run calendar is included in this week's newsletter, and we’ve nearly got a full season of course markers. There’s only the St Pauls run left to fill. Remember, if you’re a course marker, that serves as your season duty, so you’ll also get to run each week. Those on duty still score points towards season championships. Check the start of the Winter Season Duty Roster in this week's newsletter.

Volunteering for events, to Race Direct, to do some of the myriad of jobs required to make the club run smoothly, is very rewarding. If you’re wanting to get more involved, have a chat to a committee member.

On that note, thanks to Tobi Grzmil and Danelle Wright for putting their hands up to RD our Boolarra run. A date will be set soon.
