Can you believe there are only 8 summer season runs left?!

The club seasons seem to zip by quickly, but I think that’s in part due to our generally busy lives. I know most of us look forward to Thursdays at Harriers, the run, the social catch ups, the different environments, the PBs, and the mental health benefits. I personally enjoy the courses in both seasons, but probably the summer trails give a little better scenery.

Tonight is the first Club Committee meeting for the year, and as always, there’s a lot of business to discuss on the agenda. A club does not operate without the talents of the members who step up to committee, to actually do the doing and turn the words into actions.

Over the last 5 years, we’ve built a productive and proactive committee, filled with intelligent, skilled people, who want the club to be the best it can be. The extra levels of initiative and dedication, in donating their time and ideas for the benefit of the club and all members, I know, is appreciated by everyone who enjoys the successful and vibrant club we have today.

The club’s 4th annual Trivia Night is on next week, Thursday 15th Feb at De Grandi’s Winery. Friends and guests are welcome. The winery is putting on a special limited menu for us for the night. All entree and main meals will be $28 (yes, that’s $28 and you get an entree and a main meal), with dessert an extra $10. Lock in the date, start getting your team together and get ready for another great social night, after a run of course. To sweeten the night, all members will get a couple of drink tickets as well.

There’s a stack of work going on with the organisation of the 26th Latrobe Community Fun Run (Sunday March 24th at Kernot Hall). Race Directors Trent Kooyman and Clinton Jolly are doing a great job. Entry is now open via Harriers website. We ask all members to support the event, by promoting, entering early, and if you have any contacts for spot prizes, please let Trent know. We’ll have fliers for all members to distribute. We’re also looking for a team to do some promotions at schools, sports clubs and businesses, to build the team entries. None of these jobs are difficult, just take a little time, and they help to share the load and ensure the club runs a fantastic event.

Thought for the week: Leaders aren’t born, they’re made. There’s no such thing as a natural leader. We’re all born with shortcomings and strengths. Leadership potential doesn’t depend on traits you possess, it emerges from the values you choose, the skills you learn and the opportunities you take.
